Who wants or needs the plain, old and boring stock screensavers that come with Windows or even OSX? 3D screensavers are the way to go these days, with a whole range of free options available on the internet for free. Besides, if you spent your hard-earned money on buying a video card, you should be able to use it for more than just playing games or watching HD movies. ElectriCalm 3D screensaver is one such option, and is one of the best ones available out there.
Like most free screensavers, the ElectriCalm 3D screensaver comes with multiple images, but what sets it apart is its superior 3D graphics and realistic stereo sound effects. The designers have not only coded it to take optimum advantage of the latest OpenGL hardware, but also made sure it runs almost as well in software rendering mode. There is visible no audio lag with the sound effects either and the stereo sounds only help to set the mood further. What results is a very well designed 3D screensaver that doesn’t fail to deliver whatever it promises. The atmospheric effects on both modes that are included – desert view scene and castle view scene – look spectacularly photorealistic considering we’re talking about a simple 1 MB 3D screensaver. Everything from the cool rain effects to multi-colored lightning bolts rendered smoothly on our tests by default. It also includes an FPS counter and a camera control interface, which is a nice touch considering most people like to play around and customize everything to suit their taste.
Summing up, we can say that ElectriCalm 3D Screensaver does show its viability from the outstanding 3D images it shows which can keep anybody glued for reasonable amounts of time. A score of 2.5 does sound reasonable for this screensaver based on its visuals, easy installation and sounds effects alone.
